Skillet Brings The Hard Rock Gospel To Bakersfield

Bakersfield, Ca – Skillet came into town for the Air1 Positive Hits Tour at the Rabobank Arena for one night of awesome music . We were there to see Skillet but being this was a more christian based show, I was really blown away on how positive driven this show was. We sometimes forget, and most may not even know or realize, Skillet is a Christian Rock band and have never shied away from their beliefs. The band has become an award winning commercial success selling hundreds of thousands of records, headlining many tours, and topping radio charts with their high energy crunchy guitars that roar into the night.

Skillet consists of husband & wife duo of John Cooper (lead vocals, bass) and Korey Cooper (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) along with the hard hitting Jen Ledger (drums, vocals),  The shredding likes of Seth Morrison (lead guitar) and the head banging Tate Olsen on Cello, yes , I said Cello!

Several other Christian music artists opened up the show which included Tauren Wells, Colton Dixon and Britt Nicole. Food For The Hungry was on hand to give out literature on how you can sponsor a child less fortunate overseas. See website HERE for details.

Skillet opened the show with “Feel Invincible” to a very pumped up crowd. You could tell that even though everyone enjoyed the whole show, they were there to see Skillet. They sounded amazing, just like their albums. Jen was incredible how she banged on her drums while singing her leads perfectly. They played older songs like “Monster”, “Comatose” and “Awake and Alive”, with some newer songs mixed in like “Lion”, “Stars” and “Back From The Dead” off their album Unleashed. In between some of the songs, John would speak to the crowd and spread the rock gospel to the packed arena. I love the fact that they are not afraid to spread the word and to tell everyone of their love for their religion. John told the crowd that he “Loves being on tour with other artists that are also true Jesus Freaks!”

When they played “Hero”, Jen would come out from behind the drums to sing with John and you could see how much Skillet enjoys playing live for their fans. Early in their set, John would ask for anyone who had not seen Skillet before to raise their hands. “I want to see all the sinners,” he would say, “I see you, I love you.”

I noticed everyone young and old were singing along to all the songs and you could see parents with their children both enjoying the show together. It was so nice to see how mixed the crowd was, every race, gender, and age was in attendance. Whether you are religious or not, whether you consider yourself christian, catholic, muslim or any other religion, you need to see Skillet live when they come to a city near you. You will not be disappointed!

About the Author

Love music! Being around it, watching it, sometimes even playing it since I was a little Trouble-Maker growing up in the Orange County California Punk Scene. I was that one kid who would scale walls and fences just to get a glimpse in side venues to see big bands like Iron Maiden, Circle Jerks, Van Halen ,Black Flag, etc, etc. My past job's has taking me to many cool places. I worked as a PR Asst that has helped with actors & actresses. I have also helped a few bands with their bookings, promos and some management opportunities. For me, music has always been my drug even when I found myself caught up in the drug scene here in the Los Angeles area where I now call home. Today I'm proud to say I've been clean & sober from drug use since 2000. Rock is what I'm mostly into! "Shit that moves you, Shit that has heart and soul." Says the late great Dimebag. I'm currently working as a west coast rep for the radio program Maximum Threshold Radio @ ( You can find me @ where you can see my many journey's into the music scene. MTR: Show email: Email:
