FOZZY - Sin and Bones CD Review (2012 Century Media Records)

Fozzy – Sin and Bones (2012 Century Media Records) CD Review - \m/ 10 out of 10 Horns \m/

The much awaited release by Fozzy will be out tomorrow and the listeners and fans of this band are sure to be in for a surprise. It will indeed have all those power hooks and destructible riffs that “The Duke” is known for. What you will be shocked to hear is Chris Jericho’s vocal evolution. Chris lets himself relax and roll with this one. Unlike the last release he was compared to a young Ozzy. With this one I believe he has drove the spike in the music world with his own style. Which was something a lot of the critics were hoping for.

I will run through a few tracks of “Sin and Bones” to give you the vibe of this release. “Spider In My Mouth” is an extremely smooth track and power riff and the vocals are right on target. Everything seems to melt together and sound very cohesive, which sets the stage for the entire release. “Sandpaper” continues the flow and Jericho’s vocals really makes this song successful.

Cont'd CD Review

Nice power pounding drums and of course guest M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. This song also has a nice catchy chorus. This song works. “Blood Happens” is an extremely high intensity and powerful track. Filled with the growls, striking solos and of course the tightly knitted backup rhythm. “Inside My Head” rolls in with a nice smooth mellow guitar intro like a November Rain. It doesn’t take long before the track picks up. The specific thing I really enjoyed about this song is the talented lyrics. The title track “Sin and Bones” is really electrifying and full of power. Vocals are strong and The Duke with his squeals really pulls this one off. A nice off tempo song and has a nice catchy hooked chorus. Sometimes you would think the guitar is trying to talk to you. What do you expect with a guitar god back there! “She’s My Addiction” is a pretty cool track, nice guitar riff. Vocals are strong on this one. I think they were listening to Kiss,A7X, and Deep Purple while writing this. By noting that you know that there is a catchy chorus and the vocals are gritty. It works for this one, a nice feel, a nice vibe and a straight up hard rocking song. Oh they also have some female backup singers in this one. “Shine Forever”, ok The Duke is taking control of this track from the very beginning with his signature power riffage of doom. But fear not, it is not one to bring you down. It picks up and really confuses the listener. Which is a great thing. Ending this release is “Storm The Beaches” which is an emotional track with some great lyrics and power guitar. This song sort of doesn’t sound like it fits with this release at times (has an European vibe to it). I think the lyrics are one of the strongest qualities of this one. Nice chorus which does deliver the catchiness. Plus this song is pretty long. So it is one of those mental tracks that you have to listen to all the way through and not piece by piece.

Overall: Fozzy: “Sin and Bones” is a nice follow up to their last efforts and shows that this band has a strong development since their last one. Evolution in the sound is the key to this one. The vocals are finally in his powerhouse and Chris pulls it off. I give him props for what he did in this one. Guitar parts, well I can’t think of anything negative on this one. It’s Rich Ward, The Duke of Metal! Enough Said on that one! The rest of the band definitely holds up their part to provide a strong all around release. If you are a fan of Fozzy you need to get your hands on this one and really give it a few listens to melt within you veins and you will really enjoy this one.
