Great White started their career as Dante Fox, playing their first gig in 1981 at The Troubadour in Hollywood, California.
In 1982, founding members Mark Kendall, Jack Russell, drummer Gary Holland, and bassist Lorne Black recorded and released a 5-song EP, Out of the Night, with producer Don Dokken on the independent label Aegean formed by their manager Alan Niven. Niven then convinced the Los Angeles radio
Really cool to hook up with good friend Chris Kael, bassist of Five Finger Death Punch. Great interview with you that you do not want to miss.
Originally from Kentucky, I moved to Vegas several years ago to pursue the dream of playing music full time. That dream was finally realized in 2011 when I joined 5FDP as their new bassist. Never give up on your dreams - I'm living proof that with hard work and a little bit of luck, they can come true.

station KMET to begin adding songs from the EP to its playlist in heavy rotation. KLOS-FM soon did the same. The band suddenly went from drawing 100 people at local clubs to drawing thousands. As an unsigned act, Great White headlined at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia playing to 6,250 people. Near the end of 1983, EMI America signed the band and subsequently released Great White’s eponymous debut album in early 1984. The band immediately toured the UK supporting Whitesnake’s Slide It In tour and the entire US and Canada opening for Judas Priest’s Defenders of the Faith tour. Their follow up release was Shot in the Dark, which was reissued by Capitol Records. After the release of Shot in the Dark, Great White hit the road with Dokken and was on the verge of even bigger success.
The band hit the mainstream in 1987 when they released Once Bitten…, which featured the hits “Rock Me” and “Save Your Love”,( a song which neither the producer nor the record label wanted on the album as they felt it was too soft). Russell informed them that he would quit if the song was not included. Once Bitten… was certified platinum in April 1988.
The band followed up with …Twice Shy in 1989. The album included their biggest hit, “Once Bitten, Twice Shy”, a cover of a UK hit single by Ian Hunter. They received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance. The album was certified platinum in July 1989 and then double platinum in September of that same year. They finished off the 80s touring in support of …Twice Shy as headliners and with some best known bands, such as Bon Jovi.

Outside of playing music, scuba diving is a huge passion of mine. I've dove off the coast of Belize and Honduras - even as far away as Vietnam. There's nothing quite as soothing as the serenity found beneath the waves.
I'm also an avid supporter of The Sea Shepard Conservation Society. They're doing a lot of great work around the world to stop illegal whaling and shark finning. Check out the show Whale Wars, it's a real eye opener. And, while you're at it, sign up for a PADI diving course. It'll change your life.
Something else that has changed my life is Muay Thai; which, I've practiced for the last three years. I'm more about the chess match and the mutual respect between fighters than in the sheer brutality of it all - though that can be pretty damn exciting as well. If you're ever in Vegas, there's a good chance you'll see me supporting friends and fighters at Tuff N Uff, Muay Thai, and UFC events. My stand-up is pretty decent. Looking forward to learning and rolling with the crew when we're out on tour...
See all of you soon! Much thanks to 5FDP and all of the Knuckleheads around the world for your support. I'm quite looking forward to entertaining each and every one of you!
