LoCash let it rip at the Cleveland House of Blues

LoCash destroys Cleveland HOB 2/15/17

One of the most anticipated artist to roll through the Cleveland area made another return visit here. Last time was singing the national anthem at Game 2 of the World Series.

Armed with top hits on the charts and a custom LeBron James robe, the LoCash crusade delivered a knockout performance to the heavily packed venue at the Cleveland House of Blues. This show extra special to us. As the performance really was taken to the fans. The artists would walk through the crowd and sing with their fans. Keeping the crowd well into the mix of the music.

I was especially happy to see that the guys actually paid attention to my 8 year old daughter, they waved at her throughout the show and even stopped to give her guitar pics. LoCash is indeed one of her favorite artists and I am sure that her inclusion in this show will definitely keep her as a strong fan.

LoCash played a deep set and seemed to really be feeling the vibe on stage as they ran through their set and included classic country tracks from the 90’s to get the crowd singing with them. They even played a ZZ Top song. I could ramble on about this band as how great they sounded and the band members were on top of their game. The guitarist were phenomenal and yes even the keyboardist who tours with Poison was good with his rendition of a Journey classic.

Overall: well ranking a show of this caliber is quite easy is was a 9.9/10 a perfect 10 would by if pyro was added. I am sure they would add that at a larger venue. If you are looking for a fun show to check out please take some time and see LoCash when they roll through your town. It is well worth it.

Styx – Northfield Hard Rocksino and Interview with Lawrence Gowan (keyboardist/vox Styx)

November 15, 2016

A sold out show at the Rocksino.  It was very evident that this was going to be a great evening. The crowd  in attendance were really excited. The show was sold out months previously. As anticipated, the band bursted onto the stage and performed to the enthusiastic crowd.  Everyone in the venue was standing and really feeling the music. The band’s set consisted of all their greatest hits as well as some deep cuts from their catalog. It was indeed everything you expected from a Styx performance.

Please listen to the interview conducted with keyboardist Lawrence Gowan as we talk about his tenure in the band. Pretty exciting material covered.

Los Angeles, Ca:  They’re intense. They grab the audience by the throat and they’re definitely worth experiencing LIVE , if you haven’t already. I’m talking about none other than Los Angeles based hard rockers ( VYCES)  featuring former members of (BREAKING BENJAMIN, HEART-SET SELF DESTRUCT and THROWN INTO EXILE) who last week in Hollywood, Ca;  embarked on their first ever Hellrzzr Tour w/ INVIDIA  and Northern California’s own, WHITE KNUCKLE RIOT. (More on these two bands soon).

Touring in support of their just released debut album, “Devils”,  VYCES played tracks off their latest LP and the crowd went wild, like animals on a feeding frenzy and now it begins! Lead vocalist Dave Naruszewicz, formerly of ‘Heart-Set Self Destruct’ does it, he took command with his Deftones type prowess of the stage, pulling in the crowd for a head-bangin’ ride that would last for the next 30-40 mins.

VYCES delivered the music with an electrifying punch to your brain cavity. Drummer Russell Ray was monstrous on the drums tucked in the back of the stage.  Shawn Patterson – Guitar  and Mark James Klepaski – Bass, yes – that same Klepaski (formerly of Breaking Benjamin) were also an electrifying sight to watch. Keyboardist/Vocalist, Evan Seidlitz , flew across the stage, jumping so high I thought he was going to touch the sky! Then returning to his keyboard, showing off his dual wielding skills of playing keyboards and killing it on vocals..An absolute joy to watch these guys go!

Through the entire night I was so impressed by my debut viewing of VYCES. They never failed to deliver with their live performance, with ears and senses assailed, necks suffering whiplash…. Ears ringing, I left the venue sweating, and exhausted but with a huge grin on my face with only one thing that came to mind, “Jesus, They Kinda Grabbed Me By The Boo – Boo, Didn’t They”?!?

To hear more about everything Vyces,  please check out the interview below that I did with the guys before they hit the stage at the Troubadour, along with the debut video for the first single ‘Devils’ off the New EP available now on ITUNES.

The Church of the 8th Day is officially CROWNED BY FIRE

I love finding out of the way venues to enjoy kick ASS head bangin’ metal music performed live by shredding acts.  On Oct. 8th I found a gem of a venue nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, Ca; Glendale to be precise.

The Church of the 8th Day is now in session for all you rock and heavy metal music  enthusiast, and it welcomes fans young and old to enjoy the original musical stylings of a few of the music world’s fastest rising metal acts and big name bands in the industry.  The Church is the brainchild of Daniel Dismal who is the founder and booking agent for the Complex which on this night booked a band i’m very familiar with, “Crowned By Fire“.

I have seen Crowned By Fire on numerous occasions and on this night, like many others, Crowned showed me once again why they’re seasoned pros when performing.

The band played songs spanning their whole career but focused on their newer material. Even the old – school CBF heads were visibly moved, as heads nodded along to the heavy crushing – sludge metal emanating from the stage.

Their set flew by in a flash and left the crowd wanting more. I was very impressed, and will be looking forward to seeing more from CBF in the futureBut for now you have to settle with an interview I did with (guitarist) Justin Manning outside the venue.

Over the past 40 plus years ZZ Top has become one of the most successful Blues/Rock acts in history. In 2004 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their contributions to the music community, and well deserved I might add.

Guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard were influenced by such blues greats as Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker which can be heard in most of their hits and shows when performing live for all the screaming fans on this cool Thursday Los Angeles , Ca. night.

The lights went out and over the duration of about 90 minute set, the band led us through a predominantly ‘early-years’ set, delivering drenched rock – classics like set opener  ‘Got Me Under Pressure’, ‘Jesus Just Left Chicago’, to the Texas boys cover of the (Robert Petway Cover) hit “Catfish Blues” through to more modern  ZZ Top’s catalog with ‘Legs’.

As I watched  ZZ Top perform, the reverse was true with Gibbons and his  ZZ Top vocal performance . I swear, it sounds as if at age 66, the man sounds better than ever. His voice retains a remarkable soulful blues sound as I was in awe how Billy can switch from his sludgy, dirty low – down blues sound to the smooth, radio-friendly hit’s of ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’ &  ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ with out missing a beat.

Gibbons and his bandmates – veterans bassist “Duster”, “The Dust”  and drummer Frank Beard – played songs as if they were performing a tour to support a brand-new album.

ZZ Top is one of just a few bands to have held the same lineup for more than 45 years, ZZ Top has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike for their love of the blues which was on full display on this packed Greek Theater night.

The excitement of the evening began with fans anxiously awaiting for The Regrettes to come out and play @ this out of the ordinary looking warehouse/ low-key club tucked away in the heart of Los Angeles called  NON PLUS ULTRA.  But first the fans would be treated to a high energy packed performance from the bands of (LIILY) and (Casinos) who did a fantastic job with getting the crowd going.

The fans grew louder and larger as the night continued on, or as much as this non-air conditioning place could handle.

The evening concluded with the headliner ‘The Regrettes’ who came out as the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers and excitement.

The Regrettes are an Eagle Rock based  young band whose unique sound is derived from that garage pop sound with influences from the likes of Hole, Joan Jett and that 50ish – do – wop punk sound your moms has been warning you The band is made up of Lydia Night (vocals/guitar), Genessa Gariano  (guitar),  Sage Chavis (bass),  and Maxx Morando (drums).

What really fascinated me about this young talented band was their 1950ish look and feel, which took me back when my mom would play her old records…RIP CAROL

The video for the single “Hey Now” which tackles societies prejudices is something we all need to pay close attention to. Maybe even learn a thing or two from this song.

Lead singer Lydia Night .. “In the video we address a lot of issues, such as racism, misogyny, and LGBTQ rights, to point out the fact that though these were all issues that were very alive in the 50s and 60s, we still face all these same problems today.”  “Obviously things are generally much better when it comes to these problems, but the fact that they still exist is sad and an issue in itself.”

The sound was spot on for all three acts rounding out a fantastic night of music. I was surprised by the venue. It kinda reminded when I was a young trouble-maker back in the day hitting all the underground punk clubs, when music was music and no one judged you or what you listen to. Just goes to show you, “Never Judge a venue by it’s cover..”

Dance Party with Highly Suspect at the Troubadour

         Johnny Stevens – Guitar/Vocals – Hollywood, Ca.

Highly Suspect just played two sold out shows at the Troubadour in Hollywood, Ca on their tour to promote their new album The Boy Who Died Wolf that will be released Nov. 18 and We were there to witness that which is dubbed the Highly Suspect Dance Party. You never know just what is going to go down when you see them play or who will be there. This night saw Johnny share his cookies with the crowd and give away one of his Fender guitars to a guy in the crowd. It also saw Pamela Anderson and Courtney Love in attendance. Once you attend a HS show then, as Johnny explains, you are family and part of MCID, which stands for ‘My Crew Is Dope’.

I have been a fan of the band since I heard the first note of Lydia and this would be my second time seeing Highly Suspect, the first being in April of this year, and I am still amazed at how diverse of a crowd they attract, ranging from young to old and all across the racial sphere. This time around they played two nights in a row instead of just one and they sold out both nights.

It seems that the guys in the band prefer the close knit feel of a smaller venue like the Troubadour and in turn that makes it feel like less of a show and more like a get together with the guys. They always have people come up on stage wether it be the whole crowd like last time I saw them or people they know that they invite on the stage with them. Personally, I like this more intimate type of show where they don’t seem so out of reach. Johnny seems to give off this positive vibe, this musical aura that seems to surround him and infuses the crowd with that energy, like the past greats of Jim Morrison and Elvis.

                   Johnny Stevens – Guitar/Vocals – Hollywood, Ca.

During their set, HS played both singles, Serotonia and My Name Is Human, that have been pre-released off the new Album as well as songs from Mister Asylum. During their encore, they came out and played The Alligator Song and Gang Lion, songs from their early career before being signed and Johnny was amazed that the crowd not only knew the songs but were also able to sing along.

The new album, “The Boy Who Died Wolf”, drops November 18 and if the two singles I have heard already are anything like the rest of the album, then I am sure that it will blow you mind like the past albums they released.

Blast From The Past at the SiriusXM’s Hair Nation Festival

It was Rude, It was Sleazy, It was what the 80’s hair metal was all about back then. I am talking about the SiriusXM’s Hair Nation Festival at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in Irvine, California and it saw the likes of Lita Ford, Vixen, Kix, Faster Pussycat, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Britny Fox to name a few of the 22 bands, An all day onslaught of 80’s & 90’s Hair Metal bands coming at you from two different stages with food, alcohol and merch booths for you to get your swag on, all hosted by Eddie Trunk.

Now I have been going to the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater since I was in High School to see a great many bands, I even snuck in over the back fence a time or two. When I heard about this show and that there is only a few more shows before the venue closes it’s doors for good, I just knew I had to go. One more trip down memory lane as they say…

Upon entering  the venue something that caught my attention was the Save the Music group who were collecting signatures for their petition to save the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater from being closed down.

One of the many surprises that were in store for those in attendance was seeing Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis playing together with LA Guns  for the first time since they parted ways and thanks to the Hair Nation Festival, they have scheduled many more shows that they will be playing together again.

Patrick Kennison, Guitarist for Lita Ford, filled in some mighty big shoes singing Ozzy’s parts with Lita on “Close Your Eyes”.  Also for Lita’s birthday, Eddie Trunk had a cake brought out on stage and had the audience sing Happy Birthday to Lita all while Lita was still trying to perform.

I caught up with Tommy Paris of Britny Fox and he took a few minutes to talk with me before  their Meet and Greet to fill me in on the current status of the band, new music and upcoming shows. Please click on the video below to get all the details.

Even as we say goodbye to the Irvine Amphitheater and sadly watch it close it’s doors, there is talk that a new venue is already in the works for a new location for next years 2nd Annual Hair Nation Festival. If you were unable to make it to this one, or even if you did, then I hope to see you at the next one.

Big thanks goes out to Ashley Di Buduo of A12 Entertainment and all their staff behind the scenes who helped to facilitate this little adventure of ours.

Butch Walker
House Of Blues Cleveland, Ohio
9/7/2016 /
By: Michael Strong

I’ve been to a few concerts in my day – many good ones, many bad. A handful have been great. That being said, I just witnessed a show that singularly encapsulates what live music should be: the emotions, the connection, the spirit. A Butch Walker show is always quite the shindig, but tonight was exceptional.

Butch has a way of wrapping the audience around his pinky, allowing him to pull off the risky proposition of starting his set with four tracks off his brand new album, “Stay Gold“. The crowd sang along from the opening lyrics of “Stay Gold” until the final words of the set closer, the introspective “Record Store”, along with every highlight in between.

bw2New songs, such as “Stay Gold”, “East Coast Girl” and “Wilder at Heart” blended perfectly with all the classic Butch tracks. First reaching back, dedicating “Chrissie Hynde” to her and saying she is his biggest influence, on her birthday, in her area of birth. Then the slow churning sensual “Bed of Fire” had everyone swaying, still singing along.

The show was simmering up to that point.  From the opening notes that launch “Pretty Melody”, Butch and his top notch band turned the heat up to a rapid boil. Unrelenting, they dove head first into “Ponce de Leon“, the crowd singing louder than the band at this point. Butch must have sensed the imminent  spontaneous combustion, because he backed off the pedal with the heart wrenching “Closest Thing to You I’m Gonna Find”. I doubt I was the only one with tears during this number.bw1

Back to the party, Butch  brought the House of Blues to the most feverish boil on this hot, humid night. Sprinkling in “Come on Eileen” and “Teenage Wasteland” into his songs “Synthesizers” and “The Weight of Her”, with the young James Walker, Butch’s son, taking lead vocals. With a brief moment for James to say “My mom gave me a KitKat so I’d stay up“, James made his exit and gave the crowd a minute to catch their collective breath.

The breather was short lived.  “She Likes Hairbands”, “Summer of ’89“, and “Three Kids from Brooklyn” were all delivered spot on.

Butch then implored the crowd to participate in an “upper body freak out” and dance as badly as possible. From the intro of the party anthem in waiting “Hot Girls in a Good Mood”, we all obliged. That is until the surprising post chorus declaration that a couple requested he become an ordained minister and marry them. Mid song! Complete with vows and confetti.

After a moment or two to get the encore chants, the harrowing “Record Store” closed the festivities on yet another heartfelt note.

Commanding the stage, while having that much fun is not an easy task, but the the criminally underrated Butch Walker makes it seem natural. Can’t say effortless because you can tell he leaves it all on the stage. Luckily for his cult-like following, he flies under the radar enough to catch him in mid-size venues, where live music really shines. If Butch and his band come to your town, do not miss them.

3 Doors Down, Pop Evil and Red Sun Rising bring the rock back to Akron, OH Goodyear Theater

What seemed to be a disaster brewing in the atmosphere, with thunder/lightning striking down across the street from the Goodyear Theater in Akron, OH prior to the show starting and fans screaming in horror and rain falling like billions of buckets of water per square inch, this did not detour anyone who was there to see the show. Local fan favorites Red Sun Rising made their trek back home to do a show with the gladiator 3 Doors Down and Michigan’s Pop Evil.

Red Sun Rising brought the roof down in their return to town. Mike Protich definitely had total control of the stage and the had the audience feeding into his performance. The band jelled perfectly on stage and upon completion of their set were called back to do an encore. The band totally stole the show that night.

Pop Evil are always known for their explosive performances and this one was of no exception. The drummer filling in Hayley was like a fire cracker and to try and live up to Chachi’s playing would be a tough feat and she did her best and of course, mission accomplished.

3 Doors Down put on their great show with all their hits over the years including a few tracks off their latest release.  This band had the whole venue on their feet and rocking out to them. It was classic 3DD at their finest.

What happens when you put a band of good ol’ boys never meaning no harm other then to Drink, Smoke & Play a mix of honky tonk Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gregg Allman and Motorhead (Rip Lemmy) sleazy southern style rock music? Well my friend you would’ve attended a Scattered Hamlet show @ the world famous Whisky A Go Go in the heart of Hollywood, Ca.

Scattered Hamlet’s influences range from southern rock to groove metal to heavy metal with the attitude of punk rock. With humble origins all across the US and a relentless touring schedule of 100+ shows all across America, the band makes no apologies for the equal love of Harley Davidson’s, honky tonk, beer drinking, Les Pauls, Marshalls, shotguns and classic American symbolism.

This was the last show of this tour that took them completely across the states where I witnessed these rock ‘n roll outlaws putting on a great show.

The guys will be heading back into the studio to finish the new album but they took the time to talk to me about life on the road, where they get their sound and how Jake always brings up the rear, but not in the weird way. WHITESNAKE – Performed the Greatest Hits at Northfield Hard Rocksino

David Coverdale

June 11th marked the return of Whitesnake to Northfield Hard Rocksino. In one of the record breaking attendances at the venue the fans were delivered knock out punches song after song. It was indeed “The Greatest Hits Tour.”  From the opening note the crowd was engaged. It was really nice to see people in the farthest away seats

Whitesnake’s Reb Beach

standing up and rocking out with Whitesnake.

A few of the key things from the show, David Coverdale was on fire. His vocals are still holding up and of course is dominating on stage, pulling the audience into him and the band. Michael Devin did a great bass solo and really made some new fans from his performance. Mad axemen Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra tore the ceiling down with their solos. The monster behind the kit, Tommy Aldridge left the fans jaws dropped to the floor with his glorifying drum solo. Extremely memorable.

Whitesnake’s Joel Hoekstra

You expect greatness at a Whitesnake show and this one was no exception. Everyone left the show excited and the performance was the best.

Dom Rini and Derek St. Holmes

Opening the show was Whitford / St. Holmes. Aerosmith’s guitarist and Ted Nugent’s bad-men are out and performing their hard rockin’ bluesy tunes and building up their fan-base once again.  It was nice to see these guys really putting it out there to the ‘Snake fans. A few little classic cuts from the Aerosmith catalog and the Nuge’s as well spiced up the show and drew the crowd in to them. It was evident that it worked by the standing ovation they received at the end of their performance.

Overall: If you love Whitesnake, get your butt to a show and support these cats. They will bring the roof down and you will not regret it.

M3 Rock Festival 2016 – Show Review

Michael Strong and Michael Sweet (Stryper)
Michael Strong and Michael Sweet (Stryper)

Let me start off by stating that the M3 Rock Festival has been my personal favorite of the music festival season so being unbiased is probably not an option here.

That being said, I will get the negative out of the way quickly. The first negative is that with all festivals of any decent size, some bands get very short sets. They are barely able to warm up before their given time is up. Abbreviated sets force the bands to play only their best known cuts, much to the delight of many, but disappoints the die-hard fans. The only other notable negative is that time has not been the friendliest to a select few of these guys.

Michael Strong and Stephen Pearcy Band

However, almost every artist gave it their best, which made up for the shortcomings that a couple guys experienced. There was a total feeling of camaraderie in the crowd as well as on stage, which everyone seemed to feed on. Many strangers, arm in arm, partook in countless sing-a-longs, so out of key, even auto tune couldn’t save them. Nobody cared!

Jizzy Pearl (Quiet Riot) and Michael Strong

The crowd really enjoyed newcomers Gabbie Ray, Enuff Z’Nuff, Britny Fox, Lynch Mob and Vince Neil’s Band on Friday, but of course

Michael and Dana Strum

the night belonged to local favorites, Kix, as does every opening night at M3. As much as people went bananas Friday for all the bands’ hits from “New Thing” to “Girlschool” to “Wicked Sensation” to “Home Sweet Home” to “Cold Blood”, most paced themselves for Saturday’s early start.

Kerri Kelli (Night Ranger), Michael Strong, Mark Slaughter

Saturday started with a bang as Faster Pussycat, Heaven’s Edge and Every Mother’s Nightmare all proved that rock n roll can thrive any time of day. Faster Pussycat was an early day favorite, starting their set at 11:20 in their pajamas. That itself is shocking, since many would guess that Taime Downe sleeps in the nude. The early rising crowd was fully engaged for hits “House of Pain” “Slip of the Tongue” and all the other favorites they packed into a 25 minute set.

Steven Adler and Michael Strong

Another early favorite, Steelheart, complete with Milijenko Matijevic’s soaring vocals, really set the bar for the rest of the day when he effortlessly hit the notes of “I’ll Never Let You Go” . Adler’s set of GnR classics went over big .Steven Adler, with an ear to ear grin, seemed to be the happiest guy on stage all weekend.

Firehouse brought the lighters out in full force during what seemed to be everyone’s wedding song (first or second wedding, that is). Y&T as always deliver. Dave Meniketti”s voice sounds as great live as on 25-30 year old recordings. “Summertime Girls ” and “Don’t Stop Runnin'” put the crowd into an absolute frenzy!

Shannon Henkel and Michael Strong of MourningWagon

Quiet Riot were steady and powerful, with the criminally underrated Jizzy Pearl fronting them though all the QR favorites. Slaughter, featuring the most insane showman drummer, Zoltan Chaney, were not to be missed. I believe the band pulled double duty, backing Vince Neil on Friday. Zoltan completely steals the show with his crazy antics, but never missed a single beat.

Saturday night basically featured 4 headliners, one after another. Night Ranger hit the stage, blasting through every hit you remember and even a Damn Yankees tune to boot. People forget the non-stop hit machine these boys were. From start to finish of their set, it was a 10,000 plus person sing-a-long. “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”, “Sing Me Away”, “When You Close Your Eyes” and the ubiquitous” Sister Christian” were all killer. The Rangers can still really sing and sincerely enjoy performing.

Ted Poley
Ted Poley
Frankie Banali
Frankie Banali

Next up was Tom Keifer, the former voice of Cinderella. Tom tore the roof off of the still under renovation Merriweather Post Pavilion. Playing classic Cinderella tunes like “Shelter Me”, “Nobody”s Fool”, “Shake Me”, “Gypsy Road” and of course “Don’t Know What You Got” among others, he threw he crowd into an absolute frenzy. As if the crowd wasn’t rabid enough, good old Tom deftly covered “Purple Rain” in a tribute to Prince. That would be enough to close most shows, but we had two more acts to delight in.

Faster Pussycat

Queensyche had the unenviable task of following Mr. Keifer, but proved up for the challenge. Being the most “metal” band of the festivities, somewhat out of place, was not an issue for these guys. “Jet City ,Woman” and “I Don’t Believe in Love” went over big-time. New vocalist, helming the ‘Ryche for about 4 years, Todd LaTorre, is an undeniable powerhouse, breathing a new energy into a veteran unit

Britny Fox

Ok, full disclosure time, to say I love Tesla is like saying the sun rises in the east, sets in the west. It’s a fact of life. The perfect closer of the weekend for me. Tesla has never laid the proverbial egg on stage, nor did they at M3. Delivering song after song with an intensity, sense of pride and what appears to be an unbridled love, they were without doubt the most engaging band with the fans in a weekend long

Johnny D from Britny Fox and Doro

love-fest between the stage and seats. Jeff Keith’s smile might have only been outdone by the previously Steven Adler. Powering through a catalog that is unequaled by anyone, save the likes of Queen, Van Halen and Led Zep in the hard rock lexicon, Tesla fired on all

Zoltan Chaney, Michael and Kerri Kelli

cylinders. Every song was a showstopper, with the exception of “What You Give” which was as powerful and touching as anything you”ll ever hear in the live music arena. One song absolutely blew everything away from the whole festival.

M3If you love “hair metal” you have to put M3 on your bucket list. Overall, a very smoothly run festival. Very little dead time, music wise, but plenty of time to drink, mingle and make new friends, all while enjoying great music. That’s what a music fest is all about – killer tunes, great times and making new friends. See y’all next year!

Remember, it’s not what you got, it’s what you give.

HATEBREED – destroys Cleveland at sold out first show of the tour

Jamey Jasta and the rest of the guys in HATEBREED totally annihilated the Odeon this past Friday night in Cleveland. Marking the return to the venue since 1999 as they last played there opening for Motorhead. The first show of the tour also sealed the first sold out show of the tour at the first show. This is a testimony of what to look forward to this year. This is the year of the diehards and the year for Hatebreed, Devil You Know and Devildriver!

To hear an interview with Jamey Jasta from the opening night click play:

Devildriver Interview

There were literally over 1,200 maniacs at the show in the venue where there was practically no room to move. Bodies from wall to wall filled in to see Hatebreed, Devil You Know and Devildriver.

It was quite evident that Hatebreed was there to make a statement, and that statement was pure unadulterated  madness. Mission accomplished.

This package deal is definitely worth checking out. All 3 bands are solid and it totally makes sense. It is one ass whoopin after another watching these bands throw down.

There are few rock bands as legendary as KISS. So with America’s # 1 Gold Record Award Winning Group of all time having announced its 2016 Summer American “Freedom To Rock” Tour and to get an opportunity to play with the masked foursome – let alone open a tour for them – is an instant career highlight. And this summer, The Dead Daisies will be doing just that – opening a month’s worth of dates for KISS in the U.S. (beginning August 10th in Green Bay, WI, and wrapping up on September 10th in Huntington, WV) – in support of their forthcoming SPV/eOne release, ‘Make Some Noise’ (arriving on August 5th 2016).

An Australian-American collective of musicians originally formed in 2012, the current The Dead Daisies line-up is comprised of John Corabi (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitar), David Lowy (guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass), and Brian Tichy (drums). ‘Make Some Noise’ is their third studio effort overall (preceded by 2013’s self-titled debut and 2015’s ‘Revolución’).

Doug Aldrich: “The Daisies playing with KISS – how cool is that? I have known the KISS guys for ages, so I’m very happy that we get to bring the Daisies to the US on this tour. This will be awesome!”

Brian Tichy: “Once again, I’m psyched to go out on tour soon with The Dead Daisies opening for the mighty KISS! There’s never anything wrong with playing drums in a cool rock band, with your buds, in amphitheaters, in the U.S., in the Summer, opening for one of the world’s greatest live bands! Hope to see you there!”

The Dead Daisies have already established itself as a must-see live act, having toured with the likes of ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Def Leppard, as well as their old friends Kiss (including previous U.S., Euro, and Australian tours, plus two appearances aboard the Kiss Kruise). Additionally, the band has been a part of such renowned festivals as the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, Rock in Vienna Festival, Download Festival, and Graspop Metal Meeting.

Get ready to rock and roll all night, when the Dead Daisies unite with Kiss this summer!

Highly Suspect Introduces The Troubadour to Mister Asylum

Highly Suspect – West Hollywood – 2016

Why is it that the most memorable shows aren’t the big venue’s with the big bands that have been around forever? We pay all this money to see a KISS or Black Sabbath play the Bowl or the Greek where there is this complete disconnect between us and the band but what we really love is those intimate shows at a tiny little club in a gritty part of Hollywood.

It’s 7pm on a Sunday night and I am in West Hollywood at this little joint called the Troubadour to see this 3 piece band you may have heard of, Highly Suspect. The show is sold out and the line is around the block to get in. You can feel the excited energy emanating from everyone in line waiting to see Highly Suspect for their first ever show in Los Angeles. The crowd is an eclectic mixture of people from all walks of life who came together for one thing, the pure joy of a live music show from a band they love, and this one would not disappoint.

Rich Meyer, Johnny Stevens, Ryan Meyer – Highly Suspect – Photo Courtesy of Highly Suspect

Highly Suspect is a 3 piece band founded in 2009 by twins Rich and Ryan Meyer and their best friend Johnny Stevens, who have been friends since high school. The band was signed by 300 Entertainment in 2014 and released “Mister Asylum” the next year. They have been touring since with well known bands such as Deftness, Chevelle and Halestorm and have played festivals such as SXSW, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, to name a few.

I was pleasantly surprised by an opening band from Germany that I had never heard of, Audiodamn! With their hook-heavy soul-pop shot through with the spirit of punk rock sound, they pumped up the audience in preparation for HS. They are definitely a band to check out.

Once Audiodamn! was finished with their set, the excitement grew exponentially as the crowd realized the band they all paid to see was about to come on. Everyone watched intently as the stage crew set up all the equipment and checked all the wires, and we all knew it was almost time as the cover was removed from the drum set and we could all see the drumhead with the Highly Suspect emblem on it. Then out walks one of their crew, he is carrying a beer in one hand and walks right up to the mike. We all know whats coming and as he introduces the band, the crowd starts to scream.

Johnny Stevens – Highly Suspect 2016

The lights go dark and we can vaguely see Johnny (vocals & guitar), Rich (bass & vocals) and Ryan (drums & vocals) come on stage and then it starts. We hear Johnny’s opening guitar licks building into the first song, Bath Salts and the crowd loses their minds. From there it is one hit after another as they play numerous hits off their latest album Mister Asylum, several new songs, and a couple from their days of playing little dive bars. The energy of the band showed just how much they enjoy playing live for all their fans and every song sounded better live then their CD.

Ryan Meyer – Highly Suspect 2016

Almost halfway through the show, they slowed it down with a song called Round and Round that was sung beautifully by Rich and later in the show, they played their newest song Serotonia, a song Johnny told the crowd was all about California, and this native Angelino believes he has captured the feeling perfectly.

They ended the night with Claudeland and Johnny invited everybody first to dance with the band and then to get on stage with them. I am not sure if he got more than he expected when everyone got on the stage with them but I know the crowd definitely did.

METAL CHURCH – Cleveland, OH – Cleveland Agora 4/6/2016

Vanderhoof and Unger

April 6th marked the return to Cleveland by the legendary band METAL CHURCH. A revitalized band with the return of Mike Howe ( 20 year absence) on vocals fulfilled the anticipated fans. It was really great to see this band in action with Howe on vocals and Chris Caffery filling in on lead guitar. It was evident from the beginning of the show that these guys were excited and having fun on stage together. There were smiles on all their faces and the crowd reacted positively to this. For having Chris Caffery jump on board in a short period and to fill the shoes make his add-in

Chris Caffery – Cleveland

perfect. You can feel the chemistry between them and they were extremely tight. The highlight was indeed Mike Howe, his voice was incredible, he made the hairs on the back of your neck raise by his adoring vocals. You could close your eyes and remember when you was a kid listening to tracks off “The Dark”,  “Blessing in Disguise, and “The Human Factor” and just smile. The new material went over great and he was spot on.

Kurdt Vanderhoof – Cleveland – photo by Dom Rini

Overall:  10/10 This show was tremendous from beginning to end. The highlights, Mike Howe in top form, the band had a strong chemistry and was tight, Chris Caffery fit in great, Jeff Plate put on a drum clinic, Steve Unger had great control of the stage and performed great and his back up vocals were top notch. The Riffmaster General Kurdt Vanderhoof, well what can you say he is a master and will always be one! There were a few songs that I really looked forward to hearing that was cut out probably due to the new material such as the songs “Metal Church”, and “Ton of Bricks.” With or without them this show was still the best of the year!

Concert Review -“The Cult”
@ The Hard Rock Rocksino
Cleveland, Ohio
by: Michael Strong

More often than not, a live Cult performance is a mystifying experience that places the legions of fans in a trance with their sensual, hypnotic music. Tonight was no exception. Ian Asbury, in the most jovial mood I’ve ever seen from His Majesty, cast the spell much like a shaman and the crowd was in the palm of his hand all night. Asbury’s voice sounds as regal and commanding as ever and in my opinion, he is the best tambourine player. The other half of the Cult’s original core, the unsung guitar hero, Billy Duffy, hulked over his various guitars, physically imposing his will.
Highlights off the new album “Hidden City” such as “Birds in Paradise”, “Hinderland” and the slow burning “Deeply Ordered Chaos” blended seamlessly with the Cult’s classic cuts from all the way back to “Horse Nation”. Oldies such as “Rain” and “She Sells Sanctuary” sound just as fresh and vibrant as the first time hearing them on the left side of the radio dial back in 1985, leaving little doubt that they were one of the originators of the whole goth movement, before shifting to the visceral rock and roll animal they are mostly known as. “Wildflower”, “Lil Devil”, “Sweet Soul Sister”, “Fire Woman” and the pounding force “Rise” displayed why live rock music, performed by true musicians, is still a beautiful thing. Ian implored the audience to put down your f’n phones and live in the moment, instead of videoing everything before “She Sells Sanctuary”. Then, during the closing bars, said “if you want more music, put down your phones”…not as a rant, but more as to say that we should enjoy life, don’t just take pictures as proof. The encore was another new track, “GOAT” with a slinky groove and an almost rap-like vocal cadence. The show closer, of course, couldn’t be anything except “Love Removal Machine”

The band is fleshed out by the extremely talented and longtime Cult member, John Tempesta, driving the bus on the drums, Damon Fox on rhythm guitar/keyboards and Grant Fitzpatrick on bass. Ian and Billy are the main attraction, but they are willing to share the glow of the spotlight with their guys.

The only drawbacks of being such a long tenured band is having to leave great songs off the set list, such as the iconic “Peace Dog” and anything off the “Ceremony” album. Maybe the time constraints of playing the Hard Rock Casino caused for some hard cuts to the set list. Leaving the crowd spent and wanting more, The Cult are in top form for 2016.

The Cult: GOAT
Directed by Juan Azulay

Ian Astbury, lead singer of legendary British rock band The Cult, talks about the inspiration behind their latest video, shot in the Everglades, Little Haiti and Liberty City in Miami:

“The film depicts amateur mixed-martial-arts fighter Orlando Friol alongside his trainer and mentor Diego de Vera of Miami’s Knockout Zone Gym. The song’s title is an acronym for ‘Greatest of All Time’. We were tapping into The Cult’s identification as cultural outsiders, revealing the mystique of a lone fighter who, through discipline and integrity, rises up against all odds.”

Agoura Hills , CA. The Dead Deads – Riot Girls! Chicks That Can Rock! An all female band from Nashville Tennessee rolled into the Los Angeles suburbs to play the Canyon Club with rockers P.O.D & Head Pe on their first ever tour with these music veterans.

Im sorry, but girls that play distorted guitars and turn the volume up to 11 and dawn black-painted X’s over their eyes do it for this “newly licensed stalker” of the band.

Imagine if you were to take The Go Go’s and add in a blasts of metal-punk & rock to the mix, you would have this epitome of coolness, sexiness, infatuation. But what is a Dead Deads show actually? Mostly, it is a room full of people punk-rock dancing, screaming and having a good time.

The lineup of lead singer/guitarist Meta Dead, bassist/vocalist Daisy Dead, lead guitarist/vocalist Betty Dead, keys/vocalist Hella Dead and the loud, brash drumming of Billy Dead round out this PBR drinking, drum-smashing, lazer gun shooting good time when the extra terrestrial hijinks ensues!

To see and feel what i’m really talking about, log into their web site and/or click onto their latest video “Super Tiny.”

Thank you,

Hollywood, CA: When I first heard of ACIDIC, “Pure Energy” would be the first word to come to my mind to describe their brand of rock music. ACIDIC was playing here on the Sunset strip – Hollywood. So I headed down, curious to see this band in action for the first time before they embarked on another touring season.

By the time ACIDIC stormed the stage at the Viper Room on Friday, the sold-out crowd that packed this classic venue had been waiting nearly 30-minutes and was veritably seething with anticipation for the Los Angeles based 4 – piece band, which has stirred up quite a buzz with its high energy driven approach to rock/alternative music which didn’t disappoint.

Picture yourself driving down the 405 – freeway consuming mass quantities of Rock Star Energy Drinks with your hair on fire while riding in a shopping cart, YOU my friend have now experienced ACIDIC live in action.

Their music was distinctive and powerful. Playing tunes from their last album “Creatures”, which in my opinion never let up from beginning to end as ACIDIC’s command of the frenetic crowd never faltered.

I grabbed the guys from ACIDIC for a short interview in the parking lot of the Viper Room before they hit the stage and the guys did not disappoint. Although our exchanged was short, they did talk to me about another album and tour in the works for the 2016 year.

To see and hear all about what I’ve been talking about, please click on the video below.

Los Angeles, Ca – You can tell a lot about someone from their taste in music. Especially if they have a penchant for contemporary Heavy Metal music. I have found that many heavy metal aficionados shared a particular pattern of personality traits when attending a Drowning Pool show here in the heart of Los Angeles this last week.

And what was witness by this metal maniac was pure music enjoyment from the many Drowning Pool fans brave enough to attend a Wednesday night showing, knowing DAMN well that School, Work, Your Mother, The Cops, Satan would come calling early the next day.

Trust me there would be NO losers the next day, only WINNERS from being treated to a show packed with raw local talent like (Elements of Kadence) from the high desert area, who in my opinion, pumped up the sinners for the eardrum-rattling performance that would soon follow from the boys out of Texas.

Drowning Pool spawned everything that was going on in the metal scene back than. They’ve been around since the 2000’s flexing their power ballad, head-thrashing tunes to your mums dislike.

On February 5, 2016 Platinum selling metal act DROWNING POOL released their 8th studio album ‘HelleluJAH’ via Entertainment One Music (eOne). This time the band worked with producer Jason Suecof (AUGUST BURNS RED, DEICIDE, DEATH ANGEL) at the helm and it showed with their live performance of “By The Blood”, “Hell To Play” and “We Are The Devil” on this night. The band also tapped renowned artist Brian Mercer (CHRIS CORNELL, LAMB OF GOD, HIGH ON FIRE) to design the cover art on Hellelujah which on cover-art principle alone a must have in your vinyl collection.

Hellelujah Available Now

In 2012 newly recruited singer Jasen Moreno became the band’s 3rd frontman filling some pretty big shoes left by the late great Dave Williams (RIP) who’s vocals can still resonate with surprising authority to this day. Jasen knows he could never replace Dave only honor his memory on stage with his brand of powerful vocals leaving the old school fans in owe when performing the classics.

Jasen sat down with me before their show at Los Globos and spoke about the new album, Dave and the concerns some fans may have with him fronting the band. To hear what he had to say, please see the interview below. And don’t forget to pick up a copy of Hellelujah out now. (See Website For Details)

Thank You,

Bakersfield, California: P.O.D. (Payable On Death) A band that has definitely Paid their dues, a band coming “Straight Out of Southtown” a suburb of San Diego, Cali (Go Chargers), a band that has worked their Asses off from the obscurity of their own local scene to now hosting major rock venues and fests, to selling vast quantities of their own brand of alternative metal/rock style music with a little hip hop flavor to the millions that grace this overpopulated , overpolluted planet of ours.

P.O.D. has had their trials and tribulations, like any other hard working band out there, but they have survived and still to this day put in the blood, sweat and tears to make original P.O.D. music that keeps the old school and new school fans coming back. This showed in their live performance @ B-Ryders. Watching Sonny rock the mic while crowd surfing over all the club goers reminded me of the old school vibe where you didn’t have a care in the world. You were happy and it didn’t matter where you came from, whether Madrid to Calabassas, from Tijuana, Mexico, or all the way from Tokyo.

Marcos Curiel from the band was kind enough to sit down with me on this night and talk music shop. I was very impressed with his honesty, something I feel is lacking in today’s music community. To see what I am talking about, check out the interview below and while you are there, check out their first single, “This Goes Out To You”, off the new album “Awakening” available in stores and online now.

Thank you,
